Ayapaneco: Bahasa Yang Terancam Punah Karena Dua Penutur Asli Menolak Saling Bicara
Dua penutur asli yang tersisa, Manuel Segovia (78) dan Isidro Velazquez (72) menolak saling bicara selama bertahun-tahun karena ketidaksepahaman diantara keduanya.
Bahasa yang digunakan di desa kecil Ayapa, 6 mil timur kota Comalcalco, Meksiko ini perlahan menuju kepunahan permanen sejak sekelompok kecil penuturnya bermigrasi ke kota besar sejak tahun 1970-an. Manuel Segovia, yang menolak berbicara dengan satu-satunya penutur Ayapaneco lain, Velazquez, lebih memilih menggunakan bahasa itu dengan istri dan anaknya. Walaupun memahami apa yang dikatakan Segovia, istri dan anaknya itu tidak mampu berbicara bahasa Ayapaneco dengan lancar.
Namun kedua kini sepakat bekerjasama untuk menyelamatkan bahasa asli mereka setelah perusahaan telekomunikasi Vodafone turut campur membantu. Melalui program Vodafone Firsts, bahasa Ayapaneco kini diajarkan oleh dua penuturnya yang tersisa…di desa kelahirannya sendiri.
Walaupun demikian, Ayapaneco bukan satu-satunya bahasa yang hampir punah. Faktanya, rata-rata setiap 2 minggu ada satu bahasa yang punah. Beberapa bahasa yang penuturnya tidak lebih dari hitungan jari adalah bahasa Ter Sami di Semenanjung Kola – Rusia (2 orang tersisa), Kayardild di Bentinck dan Kepulauan Mornington, Quenssland – Australia (4 orang tersisa), Mabire di Desa Oulek – Chad (1 orang tersisa), Tehuelche di Patagonia – Argentina (4 orang tersisa) dan bahasa Lengilu di timur laut Kalimantan (4 orang tersisa).
